Legal & General is considering covering more conditions through its critical-illness product when it updates its definitions in line with the Association of British Insurers’ statement of best practice.
Its updated product will be introduced in mid-March. Protection marketing director Bonnie Burns says: “We are taking this opportunity to review the product and look at the possibility of covering more illnesses than the ABI definitions.”
Norwich Union has brought in the ABI new policy definitions and has doubled the maximum period that cover is available on its term insurance with CI policy from 25 years to 50 years to reflect changes in the mortgage market.
Royal Liver, Prudential and UnumProvident are the only other individual protection providers to have bring in the new definitions which must be implemented by the end of April.
