L&G launches guaranteed acceptance over 50s plan

Legal & General has unveiled its plans to launch a guaranteed acceptance over 50s life insurance plan to people aged 50 to 75.

The direct whole of life product is not underwritten and monthly premiums for the policy are guaranteed, which means that they will not increase after the policy starts.

There are eight levels of premium available ranging from £8 to £48 with a maximum sum assured of £20,000. The amount of cover automatically increases by 10 per cent after five years without any extra cost.

L&G marketing and channel development director Alan Ferguson says: “People often want a simple, straightforward insurance policy to help their family and dependents out financially after they are gone. The cost of some funerals has risen by 40 per cent in the last year alone, so this could be an attractive option to those over 50s that want to leave a small financial legacy.”
