Len Warwick honoured with PFS award

Warwick Butchart Associates chairman and founder Len Warwick was posthumously honoured with the John Ellis Award at last night’s PFS conference.

The John Ellis Award is made to an individual who has shown a significant contribution to the professional development of financial services.

Warick, who died earlier this year of pneumonia at the age of 68, founded his firm in 1981 and was president of the Life Insurance Association between 1988 and 1989.

He was a founding board member of the IFA Association, now Apfa, when it was established in 1989.

Warwick, who was a regular contributor to Money Marketing, was awarded a CBE in 1996 for his services to financial regulation.

PFS president David Ingram says: “The PFS board was unanimous in its decision to present the 2013 award to Len Warwick who made a huge and positive impact on regulation and professional standards during his most distinguished and influential career.

“Len was the epitome of professionalism and worked tirelessly to raise standards across the financial services sector.

“We were all deeply saddened by the news earlier this year that Len had passed away following a short illness. It is an honour to have presented Rosalind Warwick and Tom Warwick with this award on Len’s behalf.”

Other winners at last night’s awards were Verus Financial Planning, which won chartered firm of the year and Matrix Capital chartered financial planner Robin Melley, who won chartered financial planner of the year.

Alex Rich of Brewin Dolphin, achieved the highest diploma qualification while Tom Evans of Thompson and Richardson achieved the highest advanced diploma. Brian Harris of HLS Financial Planning was named volunteer of the year and Warren Bentham of 75point3 won paraplanner of the year.
