Legg Mason launches emerging markets fund through subsidiary

Legg Mason has launched an emerging markets equity fund for its Dublin-domiciled global funds range.

The fund will be run through the group’s affiliate Batterymarch Financial Management and will be benchmarked against the MSCI emerging markets index.

Lead manager Curtis Butler will hold between 150 and 200 stocks with 70 per cent of its total asset value in equity securities or companies with principal activities in the emerging markets region.

Legg Mason managing director of international distribution Terry Johnson: “Our Dublin-domiciled Legg Mason Global Funds family already houses an extensive range of funds encompassing a broad range of investment disciplines across the fixed income and equity markets around the world. The eight new funds we plan to launch across Europe within 2008 will enable our clients to fully access the breadth of investment capability available through our proprietary range of mutual funds.”
