Legal advice service for £10 a month

Armstrong Neal Solicitors and its training organisation ProAct are

offering a legal service for IFAs for “the price of a takeaway”.

For £10 a month, IFAs can join Legal Protect for guidance in disputes

with networks or a regulator. Armstrong Neal&#39s usual hourly rate is

£250.

Its caseload of IFA-based disputes has doubled this year. It says the

majority of cases concern claiming money back from networks, references or

contentious suspensions.

Partner Gareth Fatchett says: “The average IFA needs guidance in a dispute

to solve a problem. As few lawyers undertake financial services law, the

cost of finding someone who understands the issues can be high.”

Trade association Solicitors for Independent Financial Advice managing

director Ian Muirhead says: “I am extremely cautious about what to expect

for £10. I cannot imagine the service being of the same quality as a

normal visit to the solicitor.”
