Leading Scottish surveyor firm ceases trading

One of Scotland’s biggest firms of surveyors has ceased trading after directors took the decision to place the company into liquidation.

Barr Brady Chartered Surveyors had suffered losses in recent years, according to liquidator Campbell Dallas, and the firm’s seven directors decided that the market would not pick up enough for it to trade profitably in the near future.

Campbell Dallas says it is still trying to quantify the full extent of Barr Brady’s liabilities. The company had eight offices throughout Scotland with a total of 22 employees.

Campbell Dallas partner Derek Forsyth says: “In spite of a number of cost-cutting measures having been taken, the directors were not certain that the market would pick up to the extent that they would be able to trade profitably.”

London & Country associate director of communications David Hollingworth says:“A massive drop in housing transactions is a problem for any related industry and surveying is the obvious one. They will not be the last.”
