Lazard is top Isa manager

Lazard was Morningstar’s top-rated Isa fund manager in December while Neptune was the biggest riser, moving up 22 places to sixth after a strong year- end.

Lazard Asset Management delivered the best performance across its Isa fund range to beat off more established players.

Morningstar ranks groups according to the average rating for their Isa-qualifying funds. Groups must have five or more qualifying funds with minimum three-year track records.

Rankings take into account the effect of costs and risk on fund performance and are calculated every month.

St James’s Place, Artemis, Framlington and Mellon completed the top five while Neptune Investment Management shot up the rankings from 28th place to sixth in a month. Household names Fidelity, New Star and Jupiter came in at seventh, 13th and 21st.

Lazard won plaudits for its five UK equity funds run by director of UK equities Tony Willis and his team plus its corporate bond, international, European and emerging markets equity funds, which scored an average score of a 4.19 out of five. Second-placed St James’s Place scored 3.91.

Churchill Investments head of research Warren Perry says: “Doing the league table over a month means this is not the be-all-and-end-all of investment performance. It is not surprising to see the rise in Neptune’s ranking as it has had some excellent performance of late.”
