Michelmores Solicitors has launched a financial services and markets practice, operating out of the firm’s London and Exeter offices.
It will comprise eight lawyers, led by Philip Ryley, the former head of financial services regulation at Bristol-based TLT Solicitors, and is supported by specialist lawyers and London partners – Brian Chadwick, formerly with Ashursts and American law firm, McDermott, Will and Emery and Charles Maunder formerly at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
This move reflects the firm’s move to develop further sector focus, setting outs its intent to increase market share in its provision of legal services to the financial services sector – both retail and institutional.
This firm consists of 32 partners, over 100 lawyers and a total staff complement of 263 people.
Michelmores head of corporate Malcolm Dickinson says: “Further developing our legal services to the financial services sector is something that we are very serious about as a firm. We have put a team of lawyers together that provides specialist services to the sector in the areas of acquisitions, mergers and sales, corporate re-structuring, corporate finance, commercial contracts, product documentation, regulatory advice, FSA enforcement and discipline, dispute resolution, IP, employment and restrictive covenants.”
Lighthouse compliance director Andrew Fouracres says: “As financial services develop in the South West, local expertise in regulatory issues is important. Michelmores entrance is to be welcomed and will add further competition in the area.”
