Knight may hold off to 2011

Checkmate Mortgages executive chairman Stephen Knight says he will wait until 2011 if he has to before launching the firm.

Knight, who was set to launch the lender at the start of 2009, has had to delay the move due to tightening credit markets and the mortgage market downturn.

He says: “I have looked at launch dates in 2009, 2010 and even 2011 – if I have to wait that long, I will do.”

Knight says no funding agreements have been made yet but the company will continue to search for funding partners in the new year.

Hamptons managing director Jonathan Cornell says brokers will welcome any new entrant to the mortgage sector, whenever they might arrive.

Time to get infra the upturn

What a terrible year it has been and very well encapsulated in one fund, JM Finn global opportunities. It focuses on infrastructure projects like power and shipping, in fact, anything that is vital if the industrial revolution in emerging markets is to continue. Of course, it was always going to be a bumpy ride but I did not expect it would get so volatile so quickly.
