Keegan quits Barclays to lead Origen operations

Aegon-owned IFA group Origen has recruited former Barclays Financial Planning managing director Alan Keegan as its new operations director.

Keegan was responsible for the operations of Barclays’ three regulated sales-forces – Barclays Financial Management, Barclays Independent Financial Planning, previously Woolwich Independent Financial Advisers, and Sedgwicks.

He will work on the integration and running of the new group of Origen IFAs, will be responsible for infrastructure and IT and joins the Origen board.

The five IFA brands – Advisory & Brokerage Services, Wentworth Rose, Aurora Financial Group, Momentum Financial Services and Elliott Bayley – will disappear early next year to come under the Origen brand.

Keegan’s departure is the latest in a series of changes at Barclays. Former Berkeley Berry Birch chief executive Stephen Ingledew joined the firm in June, taking responsibility for Barclays’ advisory proposition on the independent and tied sides, reporting to ex-Zurich IFA Group managing director Jim Reeve, who joined in February.

Keegan was one of the original team of directors who set up Woolwich IFA Services in 1989. The business went on to be one of the most profitable in the sector.

Keegan says: “The combined heritage which Origen brings puts it in the vanguard of the UK’s financial services sector.”

Origen chief executive Gareth Marr says: “There cannot be many people in the financial services sector who have Alan Keegan’s experience in operations, IT and administration systems.”
