Julius Baer launches local emerging bond fund

Swiss wealth manager Julius Baer is launching a local emerging bond fund to the UK market.

The Luxembourg domiciled fund invests in bonds from emerging market economies and covers a broad range of currencies with exposure to the economies of Latin America, central and eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The fund was originally launched on April 28 2000 and assets under management are now approaching the £1bn mark. The fund will be managed by Paul McNamara and Caroline Gorman of external manager Augustus Asset Management.

McNamara says: “In recent years emerging economies have accounted for around three-quarters of global growth and there are still a wealth of opportunities to be exploited. As emerging economies continue to develop well run domestic companies will be able to profit from developments in local infrastructure, rising commodities and increased trade with overseas countries.”
