John Lewis and Friends link for life deal

John Lewis Partnership is linking up with Friends Provident to sell term insurance direct to consumers over the phone and internet.

Direct services company Greenbee was unveiled this week and will initially sell home, travel and events insurance but will be moving into the life sector next spring.

This is the first major retail partner for Friends Provident and it says it expects Greenbee’s protection range to expand.

Greenbee managing director James Furse says: “Customers of John Lewis and Waitrose keep telling us they would like to have the same level of trust and confidence in other areas.”

Friends Provident marketing and UK distribution managing director Simon Clamp says: “This is a landmark deal for us. To start with, the product will be term cover but we have every expectation that John Lewis will be looking at how they can add to that.”
