James buys CW for 1.2m

IFA Timothy James & Partners has bought CW Financial Consultants, the financial services arm of Citroen Wells Chartered Accountants, for 1.2m.

TJ&P works on a referral-only basis and has an emphasis on clients from the world of film and media. Its clients include Patsy Palmer, Ian Botham, Liberty X and John McCririck.

The company’s turnover is approaching 3m and it has seven consultants advising on funds worth 300m. It places mortgage transactions worth 150m a year.

CW Financial Consultants was set up in 1989. Managing director and founder Chris Bryans will join TJ&P as a board director along with his team. The acquisition agreement includes a four-year agreement on new business referrals between the two firms.

The offices of CW Financial Consultants are only 200 yards from TJ&P’s headquarters in Portland Place, London. TJ&P managing director Tim Whiting hopes this will make the move especially convenient for its clients.

Whiting says: “The industry is changing rapidly, especially as we are in the era of depolarisation, but the independent business model of non-sales advice and only working on referral is the way forward for us, at least.”
