Adviser gadget of the week: A port in a storm

A solution when you are starved of USB ports

With the latest Mac books being starved of USB ports, i.e. there is only a solitary USB C port Technology-Tablet-Computer-Tech-500x320.jpg provided, anyone buying the latest Cupertino kit is probably going to want something to give them connectivity. Cateck’s Bus-Powered USB Hub will be ideal to fulfil this need.

Small and compact, with a sleek design in the Apple style, it comes in an aluminium or black finish, but not the other new Mac colours. It is a plug and play device with no need for external power or batteries.

It provides three USB 3.0 ports and two card reader slots. The USB slots are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 / 1.1 and the card readers support SDXC (up to 2TB), SDHC, SD, Micro SDHC and Micro SD cards. It can read SD and TF cards simultaneously. It also provides built-in overvoltage, overcurrent, leakage and short circuit protection and is compatible with Mac OS 10.X or later, and all versions of Windows from XP onward. It weighs just 118g. Price: £16.99 from Amazon or £33.99 for a 6 port hub. Click here for more information
