iShares sees growth in emerging markets ETFs

Inflows into emerging markets exchange traded funds are accelerating as investors show a renewed appetite for opportunities beyond developed markets, says iShares.

The ETF provider says inflows of net new assets its emerging markets ETFs have demonstrated a growth pattern in 2009, with £284m net new assets in March and April alone.

This represents a 84 per cent increase of the full year inflows of £338m, year to date.

Trading volumes in the emerging markets product range have also been strong with more than £1.8bn of iShares’ emerging markets ETFs traded in 2009.

iShares head of sales for Europe Andrea Morresi says: “Whilst inflows into fixed income products have continued there are indications that some investors are rediscovering an appetite for risk and looking for opportunities outside of the developed markets.”
