Investors turn to VCTs

The early stage venture capital market is thriving with investment from high-net-worth clients, according to a new report from VentureQuest.

The 272-page report published last week reveals that many high-net-worth individuals have been turning to the venture capital sector to seek better returns at a time when conventional equity markets have been relatively stagnant.

Investment in third-generation venture capital companies by high-net-worth investors is reported to have risen by more than 40 per cent in 2000.

The report also reveals that the majority of highnet-worth investors seek independent advice but are often frustrated by the lack of opportunities to get exposure to the venture capital market.

B2A, owner of Venture-Quest, chief operating officer Sebastian Dovey says: “The new economy offers value investment opportunities and incubators are a unique route to this sector.

“The survivor rates show incubators adapt to market conditions and will, in fact, extract significant value from their portfolio companies over time.”
