Investec hires Spinks to head UK multi-asset offering

Investec Asset Management has hired Schroders’ Michael Spinks as it plans to increase its multi-asset offering.

Spinks will head Investec’s UK-based multi-asset offering and will work with global head of multi-asset investments Philip Saunders.

Investec currently has an £8.2bn multi-asset capability, including its diversified growth strategy and emerging markets multi-asset strategy.

Spinks was portfolio manager within the multi-asset investment division at Schroders. He was previously co-portfolio manager on the Schroder Diversified Growth fund with head of multi-asset investment Johanna Kyrklund and co-portfolio manager on the Schroder Completion fund with Tim Carr. He joined Schroders in 2004.

At Schroders Remi Ajewole will replace Spinks as co-portfolio manager of the Schroder Diversified Growth fund. Ajewole joined the multi-asset team in 2006 and managed £5.5bn of UK balanced portfolios.

Martin Blank will become co-portfolio manager of the Diversified Completion fund working alongside Tim Carr. Blank joined Schroders in 2001 and has held analyst and portfolio management roles both with Schroder Investment Management and Schroders NewFinance Capital.

On Spinks’ appointment, Investec co-chief investment officer Dominico Ferrini says: “We are consistently investing in our talent pool, ensuring that we are well placed to deliver high quality investment insight to our clients. In this case we are adding Michael’s significant experience and skill to our successful multi-asset capability, and look forward to creating further relevant investment capabilities for our clients.”

Chelsea Financial Services managing director Darius McDermott says: “They have a couple of good managers like Philip Saunders and Max King but I think they could do more with the multi-asset franchise.”

Peter Hamilton: A sense of fair play

Fundamental to all of us is the need to feel that we are being treated fairly. How often have we heard the cry of protest from the playground: “That’s not fair”? Online comments from last week

Online comment related to article: FSA set to ban Ucis promotion to retail investors Whilst I would not advocate pre-approval as NICE does for drugs, I do think it would be better if the regulator could spot something toxic before it has had a major effect on investors. Flexible reversionary trusts and estate planning

The suitability of different estate planning solutions will depend on the individual’s own circumstances, needs and objectives. When considering the different solutions available there is a trade-off between inheritance tax (IHT) efficiency and access. Overall a flexible reversionary trust provides a greater level of flexibility than a discounted gift trust and can offer individuals a […]
