Industry&#39s &#39three tenors&#39 make their voices heard

London & Country Mortgages&#39 David Hollingworth was the most quoted IFA in April, according to PressWatch&#39s analysis of the national press.

Hargreaves Lansdown head of research Mark Dampier was in second place while joint third were Grant Thornton tax partner Mike Warburton and Charcol senior technical manager Ray Boulger.

But Hargreaves Lansdown was clear of the field when it came to the most quoted IFA company, with 45 mentions compared with 29 for second-placed London & Country Mortgages. They were followed by Grant Thornton, Charcol and Chase de Vere with 25, 23 and 22 mentions respectively.

For the first time in two years, Legal & General topped the PressWatch chart as the most quoted product provider, pushing Fidelity into second place. HBOS was third, followed by Northern Rock, Egg and Nationwide.

PressWatch attributes L&G&#39s success to the strength of its Isa sales through its distribution deals with Barclays and Alliance & Leicester.

Given Equitable Life&#39s troubles, chairman Vanni Treves&#39 emergence as the most quoted company spokesman will come as little surprise.

PressWatch sales director Tim Crane says: “David Hollingworth of London & Country Mortgages has long been established as one of the top mortgage experts and has always championed the cause of the first-time buyer, which has found favour with many in the press. April saw him called on to provide expert comment on the buy-to-let situation.

“The combined force of Mark Dampier, Ben Yearsley and Danny Cox was enough to put Hargreaves Lansdown at the top of the IFA chart. The breadth of knowledge shared by the &#39three tenors&#39 makes it almost impossible to write a serious article without canvassing their opinion.”
