IIL offering advisers specialist training

The Insurance Institute of London has unveiled its November lecture programme which aims to give intermediaries specialist training in key areas of the industry.

The first training session, called, Accommodating Complex Clients For Life – We Insure The Risks No One Else Wants To, is on November 16 and will be led by Special Risks Bureau executive chairman Garry Heath.

The session will focus on the rise of computerised underwriting systems and their effect on the non-standard client. Heath will also look at the attitude of reinsurers to risk and why the underwriting decisions are so diverse before closing on opportunities for advisers in selling to the “self-excluded” – those who have chosen not to build up cover.

The second training session is billed Climate Change And Extreme Weather: The Insurance Implications. Led by Zurich Financial Services underwriting manager Peter Dower, it will focus on the implications climate change on both the global financial markets and the UK flood insurance market.

To register for the training sessions, intermediaries must do so via the IIL’s website at least one day in advance. Lloyd’s pass holders and CII members do not need to register but CII members will be required to show their CII member card and photo ID.

Heath says: “The self-excluded is a group that could increase the sales of life insurance in the UK by 20 per cent each year.”
