ifs School of Finance granted degree-awarding powers

The ifs School of Finance has been granted degree-awarding powers by the Privy Council three years after starting the application process.

The powers, effective from January 2, 2010, mean the ifs can award undergraduate and post-graduate degrees without ratification from a third-party university.

The ifs degree programmes are currently validated by the universities of Manchester and Kent.

In the last two years the ifs has also entered into a partnership with the University of Surrey to offer full time BSc and MSc programmes in Financial Services Management.

ifs principal Gavin Shreeve says the move reflects the “quality and relevance of the ifs’ qualifications”.

He says: “Coming at a period of increased focus on professional standards as a result of the financial crisis, this is a hugely positive step for both the ifs and the financial services sector.”
