HMRC announces new chairman

HM Revenue and Customs has unveiled Mike Clasper as its new chairman.

The appointment, approved by Gordon Brown, was disclosed today following an
open recruitment process.

Clasper, CBE and former operational managing director at Terra Firma Capital
Partners Ltd, will join the HMRC on August 1 when he will strengthen its
corporate governance and provide oversight to the executive committee and
departmental board.

Clasper says: “HMRC plays a vital and unique role in the life of our country, its work touching every individual and business.

“I want to see HMRC in the vanguard of public service delivery, providing a
top quality and reliable experience for all of its users.”

Chancellor Alistair Darling says: “I am delighted he has agreed to take on the role.

“Mike will bring the leadership and vision needed to deliver on HMRCs goals
of providing an enhanced service to all of its customers across the UK.”
In addition, Clasper will be involved in the selection of HMRCs first chief
