Hints on homebuying

Legal & General has published a free consumers&#39 guide to moving home.

It explains issues such as the difference between freehold and leasehold, tenancy arrangements and the purpose of conveyancing. The guide also includes a section on the buying process from making an offer to completion.

Mortgages are described and there is a section on insurance and how to protect a home. This explains the benefits of life cover, critical-illness protection and mortgage payment insurance, as well as buildings and contents cover.

Housing marketing director Stephen Smith says: “The first step to overcoming the anxiety of buying a home and the importance of fully protecting it is to understand what is going on.

“Our guide cuts through the complexity to present in clear English the steps involved. This guide highlights what each type of protection policy does to help homeowners decide what is right for their needs.”
