Health link-up hailed

The Government&#39s new willingness to forge greater relationships between the private sector and the NHS is being welcomed by the health insurance industry.

Standard Life Healthcare says Government and NHS proposals to link up with the private sector in a bid to solve long-term waiting lists are “a step in the right direction”.

Health Secretary Alan Milburn says the Government is seeking ways to work with healthcare providers to overcome “the artificial ideological barriers” between the public and private sector.

SLH says the apparent willingness of the Government to “think the unthinkable” and involve the private sector will be good news for patients and, in the long run, good for the industry.

The company says research with 2,000 adults in February shows 62 per cent believe the NHS cannot continue to offer free treatment for every condition.

SLH says managing director Mike Hall has been at the forefront of the campaign to remove the barriers to a partnership between the sectors.

Public relations manager Gillian Gibbons says: “We hope things are starting to move in the right direction.”
