Hartnell leads Consifa drive

IFA group Consifa has appointed Ian Hartnell from top 20 accountancy firm Smith & Williamson to head its acquisition and recruitment arm.

Hartnell will become managing director and will spearhead Consifa&#39s drive to recruit IFA firms to create a national IFA. He specialised in corporate pensions at Smith & Williamson.

Consifa is in the final stages of negotiations to buy three firms with a combined turnover of £10m and a total of 22 RIs. It is looking to acquire firms with a total turnover of £30m over the next 12 months, paid for by cash and shares. It plans to float on Aim this year. Its strategy is to target three segments of IFAs – advisers who want to be part of a bigger organisation, IFAs looking to retire and younger IFAs seeking access to new client bases.

Executive vice-chairman Colin Studd says: “Ian brings the experience and leadership that will help us to establish Consifa as the pre-eminent consolidation and support group for IFAs.”
