Hargreaves Lansdown tops media chart

Recommendations from IFAs helped propel Fidelity to third in the UK national press coverage charts last month behind perennial favourite Nationwide and the Halifax.

The chart, compiled by media analyst PressWatch Financial Products, says Fidelity got 95 mentions, mainly due to IFA endorsements and end of the tax year Isa coverage, of which two-thirds was positive.

For the sixth month in succession, Nationwide was the financial company achieving the widest press coverage, with Halifax in second place.

PressWatch says the extensive coverage of Nationwide and Halifax was due to the former cutting its mortgage base rate in February and challenging its rivals to follow its lead.

A section in the survey for financial services spokespeople saw IFAs come out top with Hargreaves Lansdown in the lead with 52 mentions thanks to the team of Mark Dampier and Ben Yearsley. It was followed by Bestinvest with 48 mentions, Chase de Vere with 46 mentions and Chartwell with 31.

On an individual basis, Jason Holland of Bestinvest was the most popular pundit with 31 mentions. He was closely followed by Anna Bowes of Chase de Vere who appeared in the press 30 times in February and Hargreaves Lansdown&#39s Mark Dampier with 29 references.

Bottom of the charts for overall coverage was National Savings with 27 mentions, of which 16 were negative, closely followed by Equitable Life with 66 appearances of which 42 were judged as negative and NatWest with 56, of which 30 were negative.
