Hargreaves Lansdown duo on rich list with 79m each

Hargreaves Lansdown joint founders Peter Hargreaves and Stephen Lansdown came joint 751st in the Sunday Times rich list with 79m apiece.

That puts them above such luminaries as Queen guitarist Brian May and restaurateur Sir Terence Conran.

The pair were the highest- placed advisers on the list but came in way behind New Star chairman John Duffield, who tops this year’s Money Marketing version of the rich list.

His fortune, which stood at 285m last year, soared to 400m after his firm’s flotation last year and Duffield comes joint-156th in the list.

Alexander Hall owner Jon Hunt defied adverse publicity at the mortgage broker’s sister firm and estate agency Foxtons, which he also owns, to come 182nd with 347m.

Crispin Odey, who runs fund manager Odey Asset Management, and his JO Hambro chief executive wife Nichola Pease came in 210th with 283m.

Lansdown also comes 35th in the football millionaire category as Bristol City chairman. He says: “A few years ago, I was under Kylie Minogue and above Victoria Beckham and then I thought to myself – I wish.”
