Halbis appoints Russian equities specialist

Halbis, the active management specialist of HSBC global asset management has appointed Ed Conroy to its global emerging markets team.

Based in London, Conroy will focus on researching Russian equities and reports to senior portfolio manager Douglas Helfer. The pair will drive the Russian components of the Gif Bric freestyle fund and the broader global emerging markets portfolios.

Conroy joins from Aberdeen Asset Management, where he was previously an investment manager in the global emerging markets equity team.

Halbis senior portfolio manager Douglas Helfer says: “Russia is increasingly being recognised for its strong growth potential, however to exploit opportunities at a stock level, good fundamental research is essential. Therefore, to ensure our strong performance in this area can continue, we have added to our resources by hiring a high calibre specialist.”
