Hackney leads housing boom

A new report by Nationwide is highlighting the north-south house price divide.

The findings show house prices in the London borough of Hackney rocketed by 37 per cent while in Wirral and Darlington values plummeted by 10 per cent.

The news comes ahead of the Bank of England&#39s expected interest rate rise in a bid to curtail London prices which indirectly stoke inflation.

But Nationwide group economist Alex Bannister says: “We think this year we will see a more balanced picture, with price growth rippling out across the rest of the country.”
