LV= has scrapped its system of requesting GP reports when writing protection policies and is introducing a tele-interview service which it claims will cut acceptance times on applications by weeks.
The firm is increasing non-medical limits so cases up to 400,000 can be accepted through a team of tele-interviewers who contact the client directly.
LV= says insurers have concerns over the increasing cost and quality of GP reports as well as the time spent in getting them.
The tele-interviewing service is available to client applying for any Mimi flexible protection plan cover via the straight-through processing system which was launched last November.
Head of intermediary marketing strategy Justin Harper says: “Rising house prices mean consumers need higher levels of cover. We felt strongly that advisers and their clients needed an alternative.
“There will still be a need for a GPR where there is a complex medical history or where the sum assured is significant but for the vast majority of business, the tele-interview should be sufficient.”
