Government to draw up model mortgage proposals

Government intervention in the mortgage market looks to be a near certainty according to today&#39s Financial Times.


The FT says Gordon Brown has asked his junior ministers to draw up suggestions for a &#39model mortgage.&#39


The move comes against the backdrop of the Government&#39s recent announcement of a wide ranging review of the selling of home loans.


The FT reports the mortgage debate now appears to have shifted from whether loans will be regulated to how they will be regulated. It says most of the industry now backing statutory regulation.
