Google search to offer comparisons

Google UK is launching a financial comparison service in a move which will see the presence of BeatThatQuote reduced.

Google bought BeatThat Quote in March last year for £37.7m, with managing director John Paleomylites becoming Google product management
director. Google is now to offer price comparison services through its search engine.

The new search layout will initially contain searches for UK credit cards, current and savings accounts with further products expected to be added.

Paleomylites says: “We are introducing a new-look comparison unit with enhanced transparency, using BeatThat Quote.com expertise and Google technology. The enhanced service is easier to use for consumers and will provide higher-quality traffic for advertisers.”

Iress business development director Mark Loosmore says: “I would caution that advice is needed more frequently than some of the direct-to-consumer sites credit. Even a protection policy, an area which may seem simple, can benefit from advice on benefits covered, exclusions and the like.”
