Gillespie not to become A&L chairman

Alliance & Leicester has stated that incoming chairman Alan Gillespie will no longer take the role following Santander’s takeover offer of the lender.

It was announced on 9 July 2008 that Gillespie had been offered and accepted the role of chairman with the appointment due to commence from 8 September 2008.

A&L says in light of today’s announcement that the board of A&L are recommending acceptance of an offer by Santander for the entire issued and to be issued share capital of the company, Gillespie will no longer become chairman.

Roy Brown will continue with his existing role of acting chairman.
