Getting mental health on the corporate agenda

With TV programmes, awareness days and charities dedicating their efforts to raising the profile of mental health issues, support and help within UK businesses for those suffering is starting to improve. And yet, there’s still a long way to go.

Spotting the signs of a staff member struggling in the workplace is the first step in helping them. Investing in training for line managers is crucial to identify problems and could stop a situation from getting worse. Companies also need to recognise the stigma that exists around mental health issues – something that could be exacerbating an employee’s condition. With ill mental health affecting one in four of us, the topic should be a prominent fixture on the corporate agenda.
