General issues are the order of the day

With general insurance regulation coming in early next year, this month&#39s Money Marketing Live in Manchester will see the introduction of a new arena dedicated to the issues that advisers face.

The General Insurance Arena, supported by the Chartered Insurance Institute will be held at the G-Mex, Manchester on Tuesday, September 28.

Consisting of presentations and case studies, it will provide practitioners with critical insight on how to ensure the future prosperity of their business in the new regulated regime.

Dr Sandy Scott, director general of the Chartered Insurance Instit- ute, will open the day by giving an overview of recent regulatory developments and the steps that need to be taken to stay compliant.

This will be followed by a case study by Bob Beckett, managing director of the Beckett Investment Group, who will provide practical tips on how to survive and prosper in the regulated environment.

Robin Wood, chairman of compliance consultancy RWA, will deliver a special session on compliance.

He will explain the role of training and compliance in the new era, focusing on how advisers can identify awareness of weakness in their knowledge and how to fill in any gaps in competence.

Also speaking will be David Felix-Davies, director at Plum Software, who will offer advice on how technology can assist with compliance requirements, and Ann-Marie Stone, compliance director at Payment-shield, who will identify how the new regime can benefit the client. Ann will also offer practical steps on how advisers can deal more effectively with customer issues and how this can be evidenced to the FSA.
