Gemini plans UK platform launch

Gemini Investment Management is looking at launching a UK platform for its fund offerings.

Gemini provides distribution and marketing for asset managers that have limited expertise in the retail and wholesale marketplace in Europe. The firm also consults with overseas fund management companies on distribution.

The investment manager has eight funds which are run by different investment managers based in the UK and overseas.

Gemini Investment Management managing director Stuart Alexander says: “Gemini has grown rapidly over the last three years and more and more of our fund partners from overseas are looking for a home for their portfolios in some sort of fund structure that enables them to target the UK, European and Asian markets.

“It is therefore a natural opportunity to offer them the ability to sit on one of the Gemini funds platforms. We currently have a Ucits and a non-Ucits platform in Ireland and we will look, during the course of the next 12 months, to launch a UK platform subject to meeting all the regulatory requirements. “

Bestinvest managing director, business development & communications, Jason Hollands says: “Ultimately, the success of any fund platform or fund family will depend on the attractiveness of the su- funds offered and market demand.

“Gemini offers its fund group clients sales and marketing services, so access to a funds platform seems a very natural extension of its service offering.”

Ray Boulger: Overzealous FSA rules stifling MIG schemes

Prior to mid-2007, lenders had virtually unlimited access to funds in the wholesale market.
