Gartmore hires John Bennett to manage European retail funds

Gartmore has unveiled plans to pass on the management of its flagship £1.5bn European select opportunities fund after announcing the appointment of John Bennett as senior portfolio manager European equities.

Bennett, who joins from GAM, will replace current managers Roger Guy and Guillaume Rambourg on both the European select opportunities fund and the Sicav Continental European fund when he joins the firm in early 2010.

Bennett currently runs the GAM Star Continental European equity fund, his appointment will allow both Guy and Rambourg to focus on their alternative and institutional mandates. The pair currently manage three hedge funds, two European absolute return funds and the Gartmore European investment trust.

Bennett will report to Gartmore chief investment officer Dominic Rossi.

Guy says: “John is a great fund manager. He follows a blended investment process focused on large-cap stocks similar to the process Guillaume and I use. He has a wealth of experience and a long standing track record of success which will expand and diversify our European Equity capabilities. I look forward to working with John and am delighted that he has decided to join us.”

Bank on simple policy

I have read a few interesting articles recently that set me thinking. The first that caught my eye was an entertaining piece by Steve Bee. He is really into Twitter and particularly likes its central attribute – that posts (or tweets) have to be kept to a maximum of 140 characters (not words). He went further and suggested, somewhat tongue in cheek, that pension legislation should be kept to 140 characters.
