Fund firm consolidation to speed up, says survey

The investment industry will move towards greater consolidation in specialist fund management, predicts PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

In its 2000 Investment Management Survey, PWC says the recent trend towards consolidation will be speeded up with only a few players remaining. It says consolidation is perhaps best illustrated by the number of fund supermarkets which have been launched in the last quarter. Under these schemes, the consumer has access to a range of products from a number of providers.

It claims outsourcing, or third-party management is also increasing where a provider offers a stake in another manager&#39s fund because of a company&#39s depth of experience in a particular sector.

PWC say many of these changes are the result of the increasing openness and transparency in the industry.
