FTSE up 2 per cent on the week

The FTSE 100 has closed 2.4 per cent up on Monday’s open of 3,754 finishing the week at 3,843.

The blue-chip index opened at 3,794 today but dipped as low as 3,778 in early trades.

It pulled itself back over the course of the afternoon, up 0.34 per cent to 3,830 by 2.40pm with gains led by insurers.

Legal & General closed up 12 per cent at 42,80p, Prudential up 6.55 per cent at 332.75p, Standard Life up over 13 per cent at 188p and Friends Provident up 2.56 per cent at 60p.

Financials dragged on the index with Barclays down over 6 per cent to 105p, HSBC was down over 17 per cent to 371p and Royal Bank of Scotland down 0.83 per cent to 24p.


CII and Tenet offer diploma support

Tenet Group has signed a deal with the Chartered Insurance Institute to provide a learning support package for its member advisers who want to work towards the CII’s diploma in financial planning.

FOS will name and shame from September

The Financial Ombudsman Service will publish business-specific complaint data every six months from September, for every firm that has at least 30 new and closed cases during the period.
