FTSE rises in early trades

The FTSE 100 made a promising start on Friday with mining and natural resources leading the charge.

At 10.40, the blue-chip index was up by 1.28 per cent to 4443.82.

Lonmin has made the biggest gains having risen by 5.77 per cent, with Serco Group and Xstrata also starting strongly. The biggest faller was Tullow Oil, which has down by 2.26 per cent.
