FTSE rally fizzles

The FTSE 100 opened lower today at 4,238 as some of London’s equities lost their steam following news that US bank stress tests would be delayed.

The index slipped lower on Thursday’ close of 4,244 but by 9.27am had flattened to 4,245 with banks falling back from previous gains.

Barclays was down 3.4 per cent to 272p, Lloyds Banking Group was down 1.9 per cent to 109.90p and HSBC was down 0.9 per cent to 476.25p.
