FTSE kicks-off 2012 with 2% rise

Markets have seen a strong start to 2012 with the FTSE 100 up more than 2 per cent after its first day of trading.

At close the blue chip index was up 2.2 per cent to stand at 5649.25. European markets also rose with the German Dax and French Cac 40 up 1.5 and 0.7 per cent respectively.

The US joined in on the rally having risen by almost 2 per cent in early trades. Earlier in the day the Nikkei 225 in Tokyo closed up 0.7 per cent, while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong rose 2.4 per cent.

    Funny you will not see this on the BBC News like you would if it fell 2%.
