FTSE closes 4 per cent higher

The FTSE 100 has closed 4 per cent higher at 4,125.

The index was up 3 per cent, or 120 points to 4075.9 in early morning trading before dropping slightly to 4060.50 at 10am.

By 11.30am, it was back up 3 per cent to 4,079.1.

Mining stocks and banks were on the rise with Barclays closing over 7 per cent and HSBC rallying by 11 per cent.
