FTSE 100 endures flat session but miners move up

The FTSE 100 endured a flat trading session which saw it climb just 16.65 points over the day to close at 6,499.99, making it 1 per cent lighter over the week.

Mining stocks were among the main risers on the day, as the embatted shares continuing to enjoy a rebound.

Rangold Resources was 5 per cent ahead at 5,150p while Fresnillo firmed 4 per cent to 1,172p and Anglo American closed the day 3 per cent better at 1,547.5p. The day’s biggest climber however was Persimmon which added 8 per cent to 1,188p.

Experian and Standard Life were among the main fallers, with each off 1 per cent at 1,193p and 346.2p respectively. William Hill was also down 1 per cent at 422p, as was BAE Systems which finished at 437.4p.

Yesterday the US suffered a day of troubled trading, where the S&P 500 slid almost 2 per cent as fears over the end of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing programme tightened and bout of corporate results disappointed.
