FSA flood warning

IFAs will have a busy time of it in the next 12 months, if only in

dealing with the masses of publications forthcoming from the FSA. In

total, starting from this month there are 81 publications on the

timetable before the end of the year.

These take the form of discussion papers, consultation papers,

feedback statements, draft rules or policy statements and cover

topics as varied as details of the menu system expected in June to a

review of the stakeholder pensions rules scheduled for the fourth

While not all of the 81 are targeted at IFAs, some of them deal with

revising the listing rules or implementation of the latest version of

the Basel Accord for example, the majority of them will affect IFAs&#39

business in some capacity.

There have already been 183 consultation papers published in the five

years since the creation of a single regulator was embarked upon back

in October 1997 and it seems quite clear the FSA has no intention of

slowing down.

Dealing with the rapid changes to the regulatory environment will

undoubtedly become an increasingly important part of IFAs&#39 time,

despite the fact many would argue they already devote too much time

to this task.
