Friends wins IT award for pension package

Friends Provident has won the British Computer Society&#39s award for information systems management.

The life office won the award for its new generation pensions package which is a stakeholder-compliant pension plan administered using the latest technology. It beat Isis Alliance, which provided the computer systems for a North Sea gas pipeline and for Halifax&#39s banking software.

Remote data management systems allow pension scheme information to be transmitted directly from an emp- loyer to Friends. It also allows employers and scheme members to access the system from their office or via the Friends&#39 website.

Deputy managing director of retail operations Tony Griffiths says: “Since launching the UK&#39s first stakeholder pension plan for the Amalgamated Electrical and Engineering Union in 1998, we have taken the stakeholder revolution significantly further forward in terms of use of technology and in product innovation.”
