Friends makes two new senior level appointments

Friends Provident has appointed Jim Halliday as head of group accounting, and Mike Collins as head of with-profits actuarial services, both with immediate effect.

The appointments reflect the growing importance of commercial and technical accounting advice to the provider, and its focus on growing with-profits business.

Halliday will provide financial advice on appraising corporate transactions, and liase with the investment community. He has been with the firm since 1987, previously working for Midland Bank and Coopers & Lybrand as a chartered accountant.

Collins role is to provide senior level support to Brian Harrison, actuarial function holder and with-profits actuary. Further change to the providers with-profits business is planned for 2005, necessitating the new role. Collins is former deputy actuary of London & Manchester Assurance, is secretary of the with-profits committee.

Friends Provident group finance director Philip Moore says: “Jim has a wealth of accounting and commercial experience to bring to the role, which will help us maintain our level of financial management.

“We are fortunate to have Mikes experience and skills for this new role and his appointment helps to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to Treating Customers Fairly.”
