Franklin Templeton launches Asian Dividend fund for Mobius

Franklin Templeton Investments has launched an Asian dividend fund managed by group chief executive Mark Mobius.

Franklin Templeton Asset Management senior executive vice president Tom Wu is co-manager on the Templeton Asian Dividend fund. The managers will take an unconstrained approach with a long-term view to investing in dividend and growth opportunities across the region.

The fund is a sub-fund of the Luxembourg-domiciled SICAV, Franklin Templeton Investment Funds range.

A spokesman says he cannot confirm the fund’s annual management charge or minimum investment because it has not been registered yet in the UK.

Mobius says: “Asia is still one of the fastest growing regions of the world. As an exporter, it benefits from increasing global demand but is also experiencing a growing domestic market. The growing middle class is demanding more consumer goods and is able and willing to pay higher prices.

“Dividend yields are an important source of income, as investors are finding it increasingly difficult to source meaningful yield in fixed income without higher specific risk. In Asia, the number of companies paying dividends has increased which makes it a relatively attractive source of income.”

Worldwide Financial Planning IFA Nick McBreen says: “Franklin Templeton has a terrific track record, particularly in the far east and China.”
