Fortis seeks wider market for Real Life plan

Fortis UK chief executive Barry Smith has unveiled plans to increase the number of IFAs distributing the firm’s Real Life Cover plan.

Lifesearch, Highclere Financial Services, CBK Colchester, Master Adviser, Best Deal, Click and Torquil Clark are already offering the plan to their clients.

Smith says: “Our priority is to retail this product progressively to a wider range of IFAs and to other channels. We are very pleased with the way the first few weeks have gone but we have got a long way to go.”

He says providers looking to move into the protection market must have a clear proposition.

Smith says: “They must give some reason why the inf-luencers should select that entrant rather then an exis-ting player within that market. The key is be very trans- parent and for IFAs to be well trained on what the product is and what variants are suitable for each customer.”

Fortis UK made a £43.3m profit in the first half of 2008, up from £19m in the same period last year.
