Former Labour pensions adviser Andy Tarrant is to join B&CE’s auto-enrolment scheme The People’s Pension as head of policy and government relations.
Tarrant was senior parliamentary adviser to former shadow pensions minister Gregg McClymont during the Coalition.
Prior to that he was desk head of the Labour party press office and was previously head of global government and regulatory affairs at BT.
He began his career as a competition lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills.
McClymont lost his seat in 2015 and subsequently joined Aberdeen Asset Management.
The People’s Pension direcetor of policy and market engagement Darren Philp says: “We’re really excited to have Andy on board. His policy and pensions experience will be invaluable as we look to shape future legislation and regulation.
“Andy joins us at an exciting time. Increasing our policy capacity will allow us to really challenge convention and make sure that the issues affecting our members are kept at the top of the political agenda.”
The People’s Pension is the second largest auto-enrolment provider – after Government-backed Nest – with around 1.5 million members.
In November 2015 Money Marketing revealed the provider’s plans to add a charge for new employers using the scheme.
Businesses coming directly to the mastertrust will pay £500 plus VAT while employers working through an adviser will pay £300 plus VAT.
