Former ABN Amro team unveils Aethra

A former ABN Amro team has set up an asset management boutique to launch European equity funds and asset allocation models.

The seven-strong team received Financial Services Authority approval to launch Aethra Asset Management last week. The firm has offices in London and Amsterdam.

The employees come from ABN Amro’s Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA) and European equity teams, and will initially offer institutional products from these areas. The plan is to extend these to private and retail investors whilst growing the number of staff to 20 by the end of the year.

Daan Potjer and Marc Vernooij, both former members of the TAA team, are managing partners and fund managers at the firm. Ilja de Vlaam is the third managing partner and held various sales and business development roles at ABN Amro.

Chris Gould joins as partner and fund manager from the TAA team, while Arjan Palthe and Khing-An Liem worked in ABN Amro’s European equity team. Both join as fund managers.

Bas Verlaar has taken the role of chief operating officer at Aethra. In his most recent position at ABN Amro he was responsible for processes and systems.
